Department overview
Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery of BBD College of dental sciences was established in the year 2001. Situated on the ground floor of the Dental College, it comprises of an undergraduate clinic, postgraduate clinic, departmental library and PG room for duty doctors. We also have a fully equipped and state of the art Major Operation Theatres, minor Operation Theatre, and a 40 bed inpatient ward with 24 hours attending doctors and staff nurses for optimal patient care.
Our Under Graduate (BDS) program starts with the third year. The undergraduate students are trained in the basics of oral and maxillofacial surgery through regular schedule of Lectures and clinical postings. Clinical postings involve clinical discussions, demonstration of various techniques and hands-on by the students. Final year students and interns are exposed to major OT cases such maxillofacial trauma, oral cancers, cosmetic facial surgeries etc. Our students attend their clinical postings of medicine and surgery in Ram Manohar Lohia super specialty hospital Lucknow, where their exposure to patients in compounded manifolds.
Our Postgraduate (MDS) program started in the year 2007, aimed to impart quality specialized oral and maxillofacial surgery training to the students. Along with their curriculum of Lectures and Clinical work all the post graduate students are divided into teams led by the faculty and regularly undertake surgical cases in General Anesthesia followed by their post operative care.
Our post graduate students are posted at RML hospital in various departments such as Emergency, Gen. Surgery, Gen. Medicine, Orthopedics, ENT, and Ophthalmology for clinical training. They are also posted at Lucknow cancer Institute for formal training on Oral Oncology.
Our post graduate constantly participate in conferences, seminars and CDE programs to keep them abreast with the recent developments in the field of Maxillofacial surgery. They present papers, posters at such events and have won many awards in these categories over the years.

Our department is equipped with state of the art facilities in Undergraduate clinic, Postgraduate clinic, Minor OT, 2 Major OTs and 40 bedded inpatient ward. We provide following treatment facilities ranging from routine and complicated dental extractions to minor and major surgical procedures:

Dental implants – basic and advanced level
Our department is a part of Nobel Biocare University program, a six month (3 module) course launched by renowned company Nobel Biocare to impart training on dental and maxillofacial implants where our undergraduate students as well as our post graduate students can join and learn this emerging skill in dentistry from Mentors across India
